Very Rare Vintage 1982 Copper Mythical Fantasy Casting Wizard Figurine Statue D&D AD&D
You are looking at a VERY RARE piece of the 80's childhood dream. As a child at flea markets and such you could always find that eclectic collection of fantasy and mythic art of Dragons, Wizards, Goblins, and the like. They were always made of ceramic or pewter and generally most of the time small and made of pewter. This is where much of the figurines for the popular Dungeons and Dragons games come from. Larger ones were generally made of ceramic for statues. But there were a few artist in the day that stepped up their game for collection. This artist was one of those people creating out of copper instead of pewter or other items and used a larger sculpture base. It is extremely hard to find the larger copper size figures from then or even being made now. These were hand made by the artist who seems to use the moniker that looks like HKCS and date. It does appear to be a runic inscription for their signature and the date the piece was completed. I have only been able to find a handful of these pieces over the years even though, i recall the artist in my younger years. So if your looking at this and you happen to know more about the artist, i'm always curious to know as well. I have a total of 3 of his pieces that you can find in my store, and one similar but of a different artist.
This piece is of a Casting Wizard with his hands outstretched above his head. You can see the detail in the work on the hands, clothes, hair and face. There is a lot of detail for this piece with all of is appendages and face. It does stand on a base as the statue itself is is articulated to a standing position. This item will need to be reattached to the base on which it stands. You can see the two pieces were created and then fused together by the grooves for the feet and fitment to the base. These will need to be soldered together which is just like soldering copper pipe. I would do it, but i'm not good at that. The item does appear to have some signs of being worked, and not that of being cast, which says a lot of the amount of attention and detail put into the work on this piece. The item stands approximately 4-1/2" tall and is solid. It is a pretty hefty piece and may even make a great addition as a bookholder piece for your forgotten realms books. :)
