Offered for sale, a rare, unique, definitely one-of-a-kind earthenware / pottery tile with an incised and pierced (sgraffito) image of a mythical creature. I would characterize the creature as dragon-like, though it also has snake and/or fish qualities as well. It is irregular in shape--that is, it does not lie flat--and is unglazed. The unglazed finish does have a burnished quality. It is small, measuring 3 3/4" square; slightly less than a quarter-inch thick. There are no marks of identification. I refer to it as "primitive" not to indicate its age but more the technique used in its creation. I have no idea of its origin or history. It is in excellent condition.
